We’ve heard it before – your office is making you fat. But what we’re hearing today might not be due to the feeders in the office, it’s actually your job. Sorry, guys.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics recently revealed the top 10 industries with the most employees (male and female) found to be overweight or obese. Did your occupation make the list?

1. Mining 78.2 per cent

2. Transport, postal and warehousing 74.8 per cent

3. Wholesale trade 69.7 per cent

4. Agriculture, forestry and fishing 69.3 per cent

5. Public administration and safety 68.4 per cent

6. Manufacturing 67.3 per cent

7. Financial and insurance services 65.2 per cent

8. Construction 64.5 per cent

9. Electricity, gas, water and waste services 64.3 per cent

10. Rental, hiring and real estate services 63.7 per cent

The Australian Bureau of Statistics report, commissioned by Jenny Craig, also found management jobs were ranked very high in the employment of overweight workers. “The most alarming statistic is for males aged 45 and over who work in sales. Six in every seven people in this category are overweight or obese,” the weight loss organisation’s dietitian Jenna O’Hanlon said.
