Research has found that regardless of your maximum stature, the loss of height over time can be a red flag for other health issues. For example, people who had lost more height were much more likely to perform poorly in standard tests of cognitive health such as short-term memory, ability to perform basic maths and awareness of the date.
Other interesting height findings:
+ Urban dwellers shrink less than rural folk.
+ High school completers lose nearly two centimetres less in height than illiterate people.
+ Smoking and poor diet can also increase height loss.
Men on average will lose about 3.3 centimetres in height and women shrink about 3.8 centimetres from their tallest point over the course of their lifetime.
