If you are a smoker and your nails have turned yellow, keep reading this article. It includes a helpful remedy with toothpaste that will clean them. Also, it won’t take you much time.

Usually, yellowing of the nails is triggered by staining from color polishes, so don’t forget to apply a clear base coat to protect the nails before applying layers of bright color.

Using an acetone nail polish remover is another cause of yellow nails. Always choose a non-acetone nail polish remover to take off your color.

As we already mentioned, smoking makes your nails yellow. So, this is one more reason to quit this bad habit.

And finally, another common cause of yellow nails is a fungal infection. It can lead to other nail problems such as flaking, peeling, and an unpleasant odor. Check this problem with your doctor if you think you have a fungal infection.

Toothpaste

Running a little bit of toothpaste on your nails for several minutes is enough. Spread it around evenly using an old toothbrush you are not using anymore. Massage the toothpaste and don’t rinse immediately.

Leave it for a minute and then rinse with peroxide to remove the yellow shade from your nails. Your nails will be whiter and brighter, but also stronger.

Denture Tablets

You can replace toothpaste with denture cleaner. It can be found in any supermarket. These cleaners include numerous active substances that eliminate the stains and hard surface.

This procedure is simple. Start by dissolving the denture tablets in a bowl filled with warm water and follow the directions and instructions on the label.

Once the tablet is fully dissolved, dip your fingers in the liquid for 4-5 minutes. Then, wash with a little amount of water and dry with a soft cloth. Do this treatment once daily and your nails appearance will become better after some period.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Another treatment you can try to brighten your nails is using a liquid-based hydrogen peroxide. This is a very helpful way to remove yellow color and build up from your nails. It will be even more effective if sodium bicarbonate is added in the treatment.

How to prepare it?

Mix 10 ml of 30% hydrogen peroxide with 250 ml of water and 30 ml of sodium bicarbonate. Mix these ingredients all the time until the powder is dissolved.

Soak your nails in the solution for 10 minutes minimum. Then, wash your hands with soap and water. Dry your hands and apply a moisturizer because the peroxide can cause dryness.

Soapy Water and Lemon Juice

Brighten your nails with a mixture of soapy water and lemon juice. Lemon juice has acidic properties that dissolve and remove buildup. The soapy water removes dirt.

How to prepare it?

Use 30 ml of liquid soap, 250 ml of hot water and 60 ml of lemon juice. Mix these ingredients and soak your nails for 4-5 minutes. Apply a bit of moisturizer after using this treatment to avoid dryness of your skin.

Vinegar

White wine vinegar is the last ingredient in this article you can use to lighten your yellow nails. Dilute the vinegar appropriately. It is also an acidic product, just like lemon juice. Try to avoid using balsamic vinegar and apple cider vinegar for this treatment because they can stain your nails, instead cleaning them.

How to prepare it?

Use 20 or 30 ml of white wine vinegar for each liter of water. Dip your nails for 4-5 minutes and then wash them with warm water.

Choose the cleaning option you like and cleaning and brightening your nails will be a piece of cake.
